Wrong at the Top of Your Voice

9 Aug

Mark and I are doing a couples Bible study right now – which I highly recommend to any couple, even if you have a different faith. And lately one of the quotes has stood out to me. And it is pretty convicting for me because I love debating things and I love to be right.

You can be right, but wrong at the top of your voice. – Emerson Eggerichs

This hit me as so valuable in many situations and relationships. (Don’t worry – Mark and I didn’t get into a fight or anything!) It seems like it is so easy to only see one side and to get carried away. Particularly when I am convinced I am right, I get more and more attitude and feel justified even if things start to escalate. And that’s the thing; even if I am right, if I get carried away and overzealous in my argument I really turn out to be wrong.
